There are no set weight classes for kids and teens in both the gi and nogi division.
We use a block-bracketing system for all kids and teen competitors. This means we group them together by closest age, weight and skill level the day of the tournament.
The criteria we use is no more than 2 years apart and no more than a 10 lb difference between the lightest child in the bracket and the heaviest child in the bracket.
Please note: this is the maximum criteria we use. Most times it's a smaller difference.
This system of bracketing works very well for kids because it prevents weight cutting and allows for more freedom in pairing kids up.
Weight-classes for Gi & NoGi divisions are the same. Competitors do NOT have to weigh-in with the gi on. All competitors are given a 1 lb weight-allowance.
Please note: If you do not make weight, you will NOT be disqualified. We'll simply bump you up to the next weight class automatically.
Additionally, if you signed up for the wrong weight class; you do not have to call or email us to have it changed. We can easily make the adjustment for you after you weigh-in at the tournament.
For all male competitors ages 16-29 yrs old we offer white and blue belt divisions.
For all male competitors ages 30-39 years of age and older we offer white and blue belt divisions. In the case where there is not enough to form an executive division we will ask you if you want to fight in the adult age category or if you want to fight up a weight class in the executive divisions.
For all male competitors ages 40+ yrs. In the case where there is not enough to form a Masters division we will ask you if you want to fight to the executive age category, or if you want to fight up a weight class in the masters division.
Purple belts 18-29 yrs will have their own division. Purple belts over 30 yrs will also have their own division. The only time we will combine these age categories is if their is not enough purple belts in a particular age/weight category to make a bracket.
Brown & black belts 18 years are combined into one division: Brown/Black. We will not split the division by adult and executive because their are not enough competitors to do this. All adult ages 18 yrs and older will go together in a brown/black belt division.
